DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR –TECHNOLOGY

Job Scope

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of the Bank’s database systems. This role supports data integrity, availability, and performance through routine administration, proactive monitoring, and collaboration with development and infrastructure teams. The DBA ensures that all database environments operate smoothly to support banking operations, analytics, and regulatory requirements. 

Responsibilities

Database Installation & Configuration 

· Install and configure relational database systems such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL. 

· Set up databases, schemas, tables, indexes, and user roles based on system requirements. 

· Assist in deploying database components for application releases and upgrades. 

Monitoring & Performance Tuning 

· Monitor database health, availability, and utilization using monitoring tools and scripts. 

· Perform proactive tuning of SQL queries, indexes, and parameters to improve performance. 

· Identify and resolve locking, contention, and latency issues. 

Backup, Recovery & High Availability 

· Execute scheduled database backups and verify backup integrity. 

· Participate in testing and maintaining disaster recovery and high availability (HA) configurations. 

· Perform data recovery in the event of failures or corruption, ensuring data integrity is preserved. 

Security & Compliance 

· Apply patches and security updates to database engines and tools. 

· Enforce database access controls, audit logs, encryption, and password policies. 

· Support internal and external audits with documentation and remediation actions. 

Troubleshooting & Support 

· Investigate and resolve database-related incidents, errors, and system alerts. 

· Assist developers and application teams with data-related issues and optimization advice. 

· Log all incidents and resolutions in the service desk platform. 

Documentation & Maintenance 

· Maintain up-to-date documentation of database structures, user privileges, backup plans, and SOPs. 

· Track changes and configurations as part of the Bank’s change management policy. 

Collaboration 

· Work closely with Application Developers, System Administrators, BI Engineers, and Security teams to ensure seamless and secure data access and exchange. 

· Participate in data integration and migration projects as required

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 

  • Certifications in database technologies (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft SQL DBA, PostgreSQL) are advantageous. 

  • Strong skills in SQL and database scripting. 

  • Experience with database management tools, backup systems, and monitoring platforms. 

  • Understanding of indexing, replication, clustering, and data security principles. 

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in database administration or related roles. 

  • Experience managing production databases in a secure, high-availability environment, preferably in banking or financial services. 

  • Familiarity with scripting, automation, or data migration projects is a plus.
